Bluetooth and true wireless earphones might well be the future of audio, and Xiaomi recently launched the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 in India to capitalise on the trend. That said, the absolute entry-level segment is still alive and strong, and depends entirely on wires and 3.5mm headphone jacks.

- I still think the motherboard is the problem, given that a working power supply is not able to power the system.
- Made it SOOO much easier to get them onto the correct places.
- Yea, biggest problems I’ve had in having absolutely nothing happen is either the PSU switch on the back is off, or the front panel power button isn’t connected correctly.
- I tried to power it on using a screwdriver to short the power headers.

If you want something a bit more balanced-sounding, the 1More Piston Fit is a capable alternative. Is this the best pair of wired earphones you can buy for less than Rs. 1,000? The Xiaomi Mi Dual-Driver Earphones offer a great combination of design, build quality, and performance. While the bass can occasionally be a bit too much, the detail and separation does make up for this to a large extent.
You want good flexible material that isn’t going to break at modest or high power levels. Most well-reviewed headphones these days use decent quality driver material. Cheaper ones might distort or break under load, so that’s one reason to spend a little extra on headphones. I don’t ever play my headphones at really loud volumes, and I’ve never blown out a driver even on cheaper models. The materials used are important, and the tuning of the driver and its enclosure are important. It’s a thin thing that vibrates back and forth in response to an electrical current. Watch carefully what you’re clicking during the initial install.

Performance was decent enough on calls, and the earphones get the basics right in this department. The cable on the Mi Dual-Driver Earphones is rubber till the Y-splitter, and braided fabric from there till the 3.5mm plug. This makes it quite resistant to accidental damage from snags, and fairly tangle-resistant as well. We got a comfortable and noise isolating fit with the largest of the three included pairs of silicone ear tips. There’s a three-button inline remote and microphone, which works to control playback and adjust volume on compatible devices.
Xiaomi hasn’t forgotten about this segment at all; the company launched its Mi Dual-Driver Earphones earlier this year. Works as expected and doesn’t require a kernel extension. Driver size is a fun factoid to know, and I guess it’s something you can throw out there to try and win a dumb audio argument.
